Camera Mode

CodingStrategy

Type of structured light pattern sequence used by the Computational Image Sensor of MotionCam-3D (Color).

Interreflections:

Suppresses the effect of interreflections and thus is recommended for majority of scenes.

Normal:

Might have at rare occasions better results for specific scenes.

High-frequency:

HighFrequency is useful for scanning of shiny and glossy surfaces as it greatly suppresses interreflections. Its usage may also help for scanning of semi-transparent objects.

Sparse:

Coding in multiple projections suitable for reconstruction of semi-transparent surfaces. Requires a static scene.

Exposure

Data acquisition time: In the camera mode, the duration of the laser line sweep across the scanned area. This value is in milliseconds.

Higher value slows down the movement of the mirror in the projection unit, thus the projection takes longer time. Setting this value higher may be useful when scanning dark or very shiny objects, or when there is another source of strong light and the projection may not be easily visible.

Default value: S, S+, M, M+ = 10.24; L, L+ = 20.48

OutputTopology

Output Topology defines the layout of the output 3D point cloud.

Regular grid:

Computes 3D points on a rectangular grid, enabling direct postprocessing of depthmaps in standard imaging tools. This is the most convenient setting for plenty of use cases. This option requires longer transfer time.

Irregular grid:

Upsamples the Raw 3D points to increase spatial homogenity.

Raw:

Computes only subset of 3D points with minimal possible artifacts.

Full grid:

Computes 3D points on the native sensor resolution, as in the Scanner mode. Transfer time is the same as in the Scanner mode.

AmbientLightSuppression

Ambient light suppression samples the scene multiple times during one pattern exposure.

These multiple samples are then used to suppress the effect of ambient illumination by eliminating most of the shot noise caused by longer exposure of ambient light.

CameraOnlyMode

Specifies a mode, where only the camera captures the frame. With Camera Only Mode, you can use the internal camera of the scanner to capture 2D images of the scene. These images then can be read out as Texture.

It is useful to either navigate the scanner around the scene, or to take a quick snapshot to look for changes in scene.

It does not perform any computations necessary for 3D Scanning and has low latency.

EarlyTransfer

Early Transfer is a latency-optimization feature designed for high-performance processing pipelines.

When enabled, the device transmits the selected texture/image data as a separate frame as soon as it becomes available, before the rest of the 3D data is ready.

Off:

Disables Early Transfer feature. All acquired data is sent together in a single frame per scan.

ColorCameraImage:

Two frames per scan are sent from the devices:

  • First frame: ColorCameraImage (an image from the RGB camera unit in the resolution specified in the Color Settings).
  • Second frame: Complete 3D data (PointCloud, NormalMap, DepthMap, Texture, ConfidenceMap, ColorCameraImage according to the current selection in Output Structure).

When this option is selected, ColorCameraImage must be enabled in Output Structure. We recommend setting Camera Space = ColorCamera to achieve 1:1 alignment between 3D data and the ColorCameraImage/Texture without additional processing.

ISO

This value adjusts the primary sensoryes sensitivity to light. Higher ISO brightens the image and reveals more detail in dark regions, but also increases noise and the risk of oversaturation in bright areas, which can degrade the quality of the texture and the point cloud. Base value: 100.

LED Shutter Multiplier influences the scanning process by adjusting the exposure time specifically for capturing the texture image using LED lighting. This setting increases the texture acquistion time by a factor equal to the LED Shutter Multiplier, thereby controlling the amount of light utilized for texture capture.

A higher LED Shutter Multiplier value enhances the visibility of fine details in textured materials, making it ideal for objects with intricate surfaces. Conversely, setting the value too low may result in insufficient exposure, leading to a loss of texture detail. On the other hand, an excessively high value could result in overexposure, potentially washing out texture information.

Maintenance mode can be used to check and improve consistency of the device calibration.

Off:

Maintenance is inactive.

Auto:

Autonomous maintenance mode acquires additional patterns to check calibration consistency, thus it takes longer time. If possible, it adjusts certain calibration parameters to improve the consistency of the device calibration. The procedure requires a static and well scannable scene. Scan Multiplier allows to scan multiple times and merge the output to a single point cloud. This increases S/N ratio to ensure higher quality scan.

It is useful in scenarios with High Dynamic Range, where increased Shutter Multiplier means oversaturation of some areas of the scan.

It affects the scanning process and the final duration of the scan is multiplied by Scan Multiplier.

ShutterMultiplier

Shutter Multiplier affects the duration of scanning by changing the number of repetitions of individual patterns. It does not affect the duration of individual sweep of the laser. The final scanning duration is a multiple of the value of the Shutter Multiplier.

Higher number of Shutter Multiplier helps to scan darker materials. Setting the value too low could result in underexposed images. Setting the value too high could result in overexposed images.

Defines the used texture source.

LED will capture an additional image with LED flash that offers a speckle-less 2D image. Use this setting to achieve a nice texture of the point cloud.

Computed is a texture computed from the structured patterns - no additional image is necessary. Computed texture has lower quality.

CapturingResolution

This setting will not affect the resolution of the 3D data if the Camera Space is set to PrimaryCamera. It only changes the resolution of the ColorCameraImage (Color in the 2D image tab). If the Camera Space is set to ColorCamera (MotionCam-3D Color only), the depth map resolution is determined by the (possibly croped) ColorCameraImage resolution (supported resolutions: 1288x730, 1932x1096, 2576x1460, and 3864x2192) and it is used as Texture.

Pattern Decomposition Reach is mostly used to scan objects that are harder to scan due to challenging scanning angles, dark color, or higher shine. It helps to correct or eliminate points that have higher computation errors.

To correctly decode the series of light patterns for each pixel, the values of surrounding pixels are taken into account. If the difference between them is larger than expected, the value of the candidate pixel is adjusted. This way some errors that are identified during computation are corrected. If the difference between neighboring pixels is too large, the candidate pixel is filtered out. The size of the pixel neighborhood considered during the computation is adjusted via this setting.
